Wonder Woman Is Basically How Patty Jenkins Would Have Made Thor 2
Though, anything would have been better than The Dark World, really.
There is an alternate universe out there somewhere in which Patty Jenkins never left the Thor: The Dark World gig over creative differences, allowing Alan Taylor to take over. In that universe, Thor: The Dark World might have actually been good.
In this reality, we have to make do with the fact that Taika Waititi will belatedly fix the Thor franchise with Ragnarok, and that Jenkins has Wonder Woman coming very soon.
According to he director - who has spoken to ComicBook.com at WonderCon - Wonder Woman is essentially the film Thr Dark World could have been:
“I mean they’re very similar in a lot of ways. It’s a lot of the same questions and a lot of the same struggles that I was interested in Thor’s story or here, although in that case it was the second movie so it would never have been as pure and as simple of an arc so I really think it was meant to be that I ended up doing this one, which I had always wanted to do anyway. And I got to do it in a kind of bigger and purer arc rather than putting it in that other story.”
Let's hope the things that she would have added were the things Taylor missed out: good writing, an avoidance of slapstick awful side-kicks, a developed central relationship, some actual fun...
Either way it's an intriguing allusion to make - wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall at Marvel Studios if Wonder Woman ends up turning out brilliantly?
