Writers hired for GREEN LANTERN 2 and THE FLASH!

Some very encouraging news is coming out of THR today regarding next year's Green Lantern, and The Flash comic book adaptations at Warner Bros. Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, the t.v. writing trio who wrote the basis for next year's superhero epic have been hired to put together the Green Lantern sequel. Not only that but they have been tasked with the writing duties on The Flash. Read on for more info on what is likely to end up being the first character cross-pollination of the DC film universe... This basically means that WB are extremely pleased with the work they have done on Lantern, and not only do they fully expect a sequel even though the movie is a full year away, they are confident that this is the team to shape their two newest film franchises. After the formation of DC Entertainment last year, things at Warner Bros. have really speeded up in terms of the development on their biggest characters. Batman 3 has now been announced, WB have hired Team Nolan to work on a Superman reboot and now they the same team working on both Green Lantern and The Flash - which to me suggests that the first crossing over of the DC Universe will take place between these two characters. Chris Nolan has been reluctant to depict a world where Batman and Superman co-exist, and WB have decided to let him be with that because of the revenue he brings to the studio. I would think attention at WB has now turned on some kind of Lantern/Flash team-up to test the water on a potential future Justice League movie. And The Flash was always going to be a property that new Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment - Geoff Johns (The Flash: Rebirth) - was always going to push, and it's no surprise to see the movie really gather momentum now. We can probably expect The Flash to revolve around Barry Allen, and the only sad thing is that we won't get to see a Johns written screenplay for it. But no matter... I'm certain his creative ideas will find their way into this movie. Berlanti is the creator of the t.v. show Everwood, and has extensive credits on shows like Dawson's Creek and Eli Stone. Green was the writer/creator of NBC's canceled show Kings, and has credits on Heroes and Everwood. Guggenheim has credits onLaw & Order and FlashForward. Green Lantern is shooting right now in New Orleans.
