Bryan Singer has been openly flirting with the idea of bringing Nightcrawler back for a while now: he was supposed to be in X-Men: The Last Stand and was considered for Days Of Future Past, so it would seem to be third time's a charm for the teleporter. And don't just dismiss this as a rumour for now, as Singer is still stating his intentions, with his most recent statements on the character suggesting he's going to be redrawn as Mystique's son...
"I'm excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the '80s. Nightcrawler is a familiar character, and if he's born from Mystique in the movie, he'd be quite young (again, a "different ")."
Ignoring for a minute the fact that Nightcrawler isn't a shape shifter (and thus couldn't really be her son), that would at least give Mystique an even more substantial role in proceedings, which was hinted coming out of Days Of Future Past. But how do you handle the kid? Would It Work? It depends really: if the child is used as a plot device, then that might be okay, but if they start introducing plucky little younger side-kicks you start hearing enormous Scrappy Doo klaxons going off at every turn. So maybe it's going to be a case of a silent performance by a very young child being the best approach...
