X-Men: Apocalypse - 7 Spoilers Learned From The New Images

7. Apocalypse's Faithful Origin And Master Plan

In the magazine, Oscar Isaac confirms that his Apocalypse was born 5000 years ago in Ancient Egypt, and elaborates by revealing that he's "the creative-slash-destructive force of this Earth. When things start to go awry, or when things seem like they€™re not moving towards evolution, he destroys those civilizations." As for why the ancient villain decides the 1980s is the right time to strike, it's simply because he doesn't like what he sees. As a result, Apocalypse decides that it's once again time for a culling to separate the weak from the strong. Singer actually describes the Regan era that this movie takes place in as "a chaotic world of conflict and war and destruction", hence why Apocalypse takes it on himself to fix things as he sees fit. That means destroying the world, and whether it's man or mutant, only those Apocalypse deems worthy will be allowed to stand with him (seeing as the latter group have powers though, he obviously surrounds himself with his own kind). That inevitably forces him into conflict with the X-Men, so Apocalypse assembles a team of his own to help him enact this plan. There's very much an emphasis in the article that this is going to be the biggest X-Men movie yet, and with Apocalypse essentially planning to destroy the world as the X-Men know it, that's a point which it's hard to argue with!
