4. The Repetition (Again)

Putting aside the parallels with The Last Stand for now (it's coming, don't you worry), it's rather unfortunate that we appear to be getting some narrative threads from recent X-Men movies played out again. Almost like this is a greatest hits style movie.

We're going to see Magneto playing the villain again and then presumably swapping his affiliation when Phoenix's threat establishes properly; we're going to see conflict between the mutants on the best way to deal with Jean; we're going to see humans putting power dampening collars on mutants and we're going to see Xavier seemingly losing control of the situation. These are all things we've already seen very recently.

If there's not enough narrative innovation in there, it's going to look like this is no more than an exercise in treading water. And for so many of the beats to be appearing in the trailers, that's a very real concern.
