Marvel have mastered the art of making trailers that, even if not always entirely brilliant, generally have at least a couple of incredible money shots that are going to be everywhere and be really worth getting excited about. It's an effective technique, and one sorely - and somewhat surprisingly - lacking here.

The first look at Sophie Turner in Dark Phoenix, released a few months ago, was bursting with colour and energy, and if they'd been able to translate something like that to film and included it towards the end of the trailer, then there'd at least be something getting really excited about.

Instead we get a slightly messy shot of the Phoenix, and then it ends with a dark shot of Jean Grey where you can just about see the cracks starting to appear. Keeping things back isn't a bad thing, but there needs to be something to take away from the trailer and get excited about.
