X-Men: Apocalypse - After-Credits Scene Revealed [SPOILERS]

Are they setting up X-Men: Attack Of The Clones?!

Mr Sinister

The critics might not have got to see it before they showered X-Men:Apocalypse with a torrent of apathy, but the after-credits stinger on Bryan Singer's threequel (sort of) has been confirmed as existing. And now the contents of the stinger have also been confirmed by Bleeding Cool.

As predicted, the stinger sets up the emergence of Mister Sinister. Here's the description:

"We see a besuited man walking through the remains of the Weapon X clean-up programme, removing the blood, bodies and bullets. And a suited man retrieving vials of Wolverines blood labelled Weapon X. And placing them into his briefcase which contains other vials of differing colours. Slamming shut, it is labelled ESSEX CORP."

For the uninitiated, the Essex Corp name references Nathaniel Essex, better known as Mister Sinister, who has been a long-running villain in the X-Men series. He's had various different grand schemes, but he has an over-riding fascination with DNA and cloning mutants. That would explain why he's collecting blood.

We have to now wonder where Essex/Sinister will actually appear: he could be set to appear in Wolverine 3 (which we know is casting scientists), or he could be the big bad of Gambit, who he used to work with in the comics (remember, Gambit is not a black and white guy), or he could be the next X-Men movie villain. In truth, he could be all three, setting up a more unified narrative universe like the MCU.

The most compelling idea is that Sinister will follow the Spider-Man And The X-Men arc that sees Sinister stealing genetic samples and cloning his own dark X-Men team of Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Beast, Ice Man and Firestar. In the current absence of the possibility of doing the Avengers vs X-Men story-line on screen, having the X-Men fight their own clones would be a beautiful alternative.
