Yann Demange To Make Hard-As-Nails Corrupt Cop Movie, The Seven Five
'71 director to make a feature out of the same real life tale used for a forthcoming documentary.
There's already a movie called The Seven Five, an as-yet unreleased documentary that recounts a story of police corruption in late 80s, early 90s New York. Now that same story is to be adapted into a fiction film of the same name. According to Deadline, Yann Demange is firming up a deal to direct the picture. It will be his follow up to '71, a tough, propulsive thriller set in a war torn Belfast that was, for the most part, edge of your seat stuff. There's every chance he'll be able to make a good fist out of The Seven Five too. I looked up the documentary for background, and they put it so well on the official site that I'm going to clip from that. Remember, we're back in the late 80s here. "One man led his crew on a rampage through the streets of East New York, robbing dope dealers at gunpoint, stealing countless kilos of cocaine and hundreds of thousands dollars in cash. He was a New York City cop. This is his story - a high-octane documentary thriller about Michael Dowd, the dirtiest cop ever." I don't know about you, but I want to see both films now, and very keenly. Why hadn't I heard of Michael Dowd before?
That does sound like a plum role and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go to some real hot-shot star. Dowd was around 30 when he was arrested so it won't be Brad Pitt, but I think we can look forward to a big name here. Maybe Jack O'Connell, who worked with Demange on '71?
