The characters of DC Comics have been making their presence felt on both the big and small screen for decades, but they were finally brought together under one unique umbrella when Warner Bros. launched the DC Extended Universe - a shared universe full of DC's finest heroes and deadliest supervillains.
Since its inception, the DCEU has been a subject of debate among comic book fans, with many criticising its earlier attempts to mirror the well-oiled machine that is Marvel's Cinematic Universe. However, following a number of tonal issues and rushed storytelling in the likes of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, it found its footing with Wonder Woman and has, for the most part, never looked back.
Following the back-to-back successes of Aquaman and Shazam!, the DCEU is set for its next major installment, Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), which hits theaters at the beginning of next year.
