They often say that the original is best and for Spider-Man movie actors it may actually be true. For a whole generation of Spider-Man fans it was Tobey Maguire’s cinematic portrayal of the quick-witted webslinger that we identified with whenever we thought of Marvel Comics’ most popular superhero.
So then, how great was it to see Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man reappear after 15 years in the recent smash hit Spider-Man No Way Home? Nostalgia took over many audience members who couldn’t help but scream outloud their delight at seeing their former hero return for one more (and hopefully not the last) outing.
What Maguire achieved with director Sam Raimi in the first three Spider-Man movies would literally pave the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that exists right now. Although they weren’t connected to begin with, it would be the success of the Spider-Man movies that convinced producers to try Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk and eventually connect them with the rest of the Avengers and wider MCU we all know and love to today.
