Zach Galifianakis Says THE HANGOVER 3 Will Involve Alan In Mental Hospital

If you've ever watched The Hangover series and thought Zach Galifianakis' character Alan should be locked up in a mental asylum for the stuff he says and does, well you might like the sound of where the third film could be headed. In an interview from the cover story of the new issue of Rolling Stone, Galifianakis reveals that The Hangover Part III will find Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Stu (Ed Helms) breaking his character Alan out of a mental hospital. Perhaps this is fitting as Galifianakis effectively played a mental patient in the Indie comedy It's Kind of A Funny Story last year (pictured above). The Hangover Part II screenwriter Craig Mazin was hired back to write the threequel on the Tuesday after the Memorial day, record breaking R-Rated $135 million domestic weekend haul. The film has now amassed $340 million worldwide and counting. It's said "the plot ditches the format of the first two" but I imagine they'll still be the old favourites making an appearance - the phone call from Cooper, the build-up, the hangover devastation scene, the slow clues of what might have happened, Helms has a physical change, somebody is lost, there's a peculiar animal involved, Mike Tyson shows up, etc, etc. You know the drill by now. There's no hint in the interview on where The Hangover Part III will be set but we ran a recent poll which said Dublin, somewhat surprisingly, as the OWF readers city of choice for where the three men's next frolics and fun should take place with 66% of the 300 votes. In a close second was Amsterdam with 59% and certainly that has been the popular rumoured destination after some of the fringe cast members dropped hints earlier that they may be going Dutch. The Hangover 3 presumably will film next year once Mazin has finished his script and as the three main players have busy schedules this year; Cooper on The Place Beyond the Pines and then probably Paradise Lost, Ed Helms' regular stint on The Office and Zach will soon be shooting the Will Ferrell comedy Southern Rivals. Director Todd Phillips has previously said it will be the last in the series he works on.
