ZOMBIELAND writers take on Ryan Reynolds' DEADPOOL!

Movie could film as early as late summer, once Reynolds is done with his other superhero property Green Lantern.

For once a loose rumour turns out to be true. Variety are confirming that Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have won themselves a big money gig at 20th Century Fox - who have just hired them to write a Deadpool spin-off. Ryan Reynolds will of course reprise his role as the wisecracking Marvel anti-hero from X-Men Origins: Wolverine and if Rheese and Wernick can get a script completed that Fox like in four or five months, then this could film in the latter half of 2010, once Reynolds is done with WB's superhero Green Lantern. If that does happen - I'd wager that Reynolds would be the first actor to lead a comic book movie based on both a Marvel and a DC Comics character in the same calendar year. Actually, won't he just be the first actor to do that period, even without a timeframe? The biggest of a boat load of problems that plagued Wolverine last year was it's awful script, so having Rheese and Wernick on board, two ambitious writers who clearly have a strong voice, and a good tone for hilarious comedy and well thought-out action (they also have an unproduced draft titled Earth vs. Moon which could be a HUGE movie if Universal were to take a chance on it) is an inspired piece of hiring, I'd say. I previously had no hope for Deadpool because of the total mis-handling of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and I just plain hate the idea behind comic book prequels anyway, but I kinda like these guys, and I have faith in them. And well... Reynolds connects with this character. Hopefully on this one, they will worry less about continuity and getting cameo's in from other characters and concern themselves more with just making a kick-ass movie.
