10 "WTF, They Can't Do That!" Boss Fights In Video Games

Though video games have evolved immensely over the last 40 years, one staple that's remained mostly unchanged is the end-of-level boss. As annoying as they can be, these adversaries are there to separate the amateurs from the pros.

For this reason, boss fights tend to be brutal, time-consuming, and exhausting.

However, that's not enough for certain antagonists. To ensure they emerge victorious, some evildoers rely on cheap tactics that shouldn't be allowed, not even in a battle to the death.

Putting up with devastating combos and instant-kill attacks is one thing. But it's a step too far when a baddie keeps regenerating their health, distorts your controls, or is immune to the most effective attacks. It can throw players off if a boss relies on a tactic they haven't seen before since they haven't had a chance to adapt to it.

Also, there's nothing more infuriating than walking into the boss' domain with the perfect way to win, only to learn the enemy has disabled that very strategy. In situations like this, it's reasonable to doublecheck the rulebook to understand how the boss can get away with this sort of behaviour.

10. Chef Antoine Keeps Eating - Dead Rising 2

After arriving in the Royal Flush Plaza in Dead Rising 2, Chuck Green encounters the owner, Antoine Thomas. At first, Antoine believes Chuck is a reporter who intends to give him a career-defining interview.

The so-called King of Cuisine goes nuts when he realises this isn't the case, kicking off the boss battle. Players may assume this fight will be a breeze since it's still early days in the main campaign at this point.

Also, a crazy cook armed with a frying pan doesn't sound particularly intimidating.

However, this boss relies on one of the most hated strategies in all of gaming - constant healing. Antoine scurries away every time he suffers damage and wolfs down a snack, replenishing his health.

Even if he's at death's door, the demented chef can be back to full health before you know it. Chuck has to stay as close to Antoine as possible to stop the dish-serving maniac from stuffing his face. This strategy brings its own problems however, since it leaves our hero open for attack.

As a result, this brawl drags out much longer than it should.
