10 Amazing Games You Didn't Realise Aged HORRIBLY
3. Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts remains fondly beloved by millions, because who doesn't love the idea of a Disney-themed RPG developed by Square Enix? But as genius an exercise in intertextuality as it is, the O.G. game is rough as sandpaper.
Even ignoring the scarcely comprehensible word-salad of a plot, the original game's clunky camera and controls ensure both combat and platforming - that is, the two key tenets of gameplay - are frustrating to modern hands.
Elsewhere the user interface is a mess, the level design is infuriatingly obtuse at times, and worst of all, the deathly dull, mandatory gummi levels will ensure players have to actively force themselves to continue.
This is to say, if you've got dew-eyed memories of playing the first Kingdom Hearts as a young whippersnapper, you're probably better off leaving those memories untarnished rather than tainting them with a new playthrough.
Thankfully Kingdom Hearts II holds up considerably better, even though it certainly has its own issues to speak of.
