10 Amazing Games You Didn't Realise Aged HORRIBLY
4. Alan Wake
The recent release of Alan Wake 2 naturally stirred up fan interest in revisiting the original 2010 action-adventure game that started it all.
But while Alan Wake has a well-earned place as a cult classic largely thanks to its mind-bending narrative, aesthetics, and fantastic atmosphere, the gameplay doesn't really hold water - especially not compared to its sublime successor.
Combat simply doesn't feel good moment-to-moment, the enemy types are woefully limited, and the samey environments wear out their welcome after just a few short hours.
It is a game whose reputation is almost entirely earned by its story and its mood, with the creaky gameplay simply being something players accept for the sake of the overall experience.
All the same, it was decidedly easier to tolerate in 2010, yet 15 years later when game design has moved so far forward? It's tough to stick with Alan Wake all the way to the end, honestly. Nobody could blame you for dipping after a while.
