10 Amazing Video Game Items (That Actually Curse You)

9. Cursed Shield - Final Fantasy 6

The appeal of the Cursed Shield is not what it does when you first find it, but in what it has the potential to become.

When you first encounter the shield, it is probably the worst piece of kit in the whole game. Not only does it penalize the holder by dropping your Strength, Speed, Stamina, and Magic by 7 points, it offers no protective boosts and subjects the user to several status debuffs like Doom, Silence, and Berserk.

On to of that, it also makes the player weak to fire, ice, lighting, poison, earth, and water - in other words, pretty much every element in the game.

So, you're likely asking yourself, 'Why the hell would I bother with this?' Well, you'd bother with it because of what you end up with if you can manage to make it through 256 battles while carrying the Cursed Shield, which is the Paladin's Shield, generally considered one of the best, if not THE best, shields in the game.

The Paladin's Shield carries high stats for both Defense and Evasion. In addition, it acts in the exact opposite fashion from the Cursed Shield, absorbing Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Holy damage, as well as nullifying Poison, Wind, Earth and Water damage.

If you're willing to tough it out through the curse phase, you can wind up with a great reward for doing so.
