10 Announced Video Games That Are NEVER Coming Out
3. Everwild
Everwild is a new third-person action-adventure game from the fine folk at Rare, and was initially said to be heavily influenced by God games.
The game was first publicly announced in 2019, by which point it had already been in some form of development for five years.
In 2021, Jeff Grubb claimed the game was "a real mess" and that Rare had internally rebooted it after the exit of creative director Simon Woodroffe.
By 2023, VGC's Andy Robinson claimed that Everwild had been changed from a survival game into a simulation in the vein of Viva PiƱata, while expressing optimism for the new direction.
Rare's latest release target was reportedly 2024, which they've obviously missed, and though Xbox honcho Phil Spencer recently played the game and added that the team is making "progress," an 11-year development cycle with no end in sight is, well, wild.
It's much easier to believe that Everwild eventually gets shelved rather than eventually gets released, especially as Spencer's comments hardly suggest that the game is in an advanced state of production.
