10 Awesome Video Games That Should Never Become Movies

6. Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age Origins Logo Origins is the first game in the Dragon Age franchise, and was published by Electronic Arts in 2009. Developers BioWare and Edge of Reality did a number on this one; the game won approximately 15 awards in one year. It focuses on a conscripted character who must unite a kingdom on the brink of civil war, as well as stop creatures known as Darkspawn from taking over the country and leaking into the rest of the world. Why it would make a terrible film: Too many character origins and types to choose from. Like all good customizable games, Dragon Age: Origins has multiple species and character classes to choose from. It also has two origin stories to choose from per race depending on the chosen character class. Players can also choose between male and female protagonists. The reason this makes a potential film difficult is that they are all good stories. Unless screenwriters chose a non-human protagonist for their film, it would look and feel like a cop-out. Or, even better would be a female non-human protagonist. Ladies play games too, and it's time they get more than eye-candy icon Lara Croft to look up to on the big screen.

I'm currently a stay-at-home wife in Wyoming, though I grew up in Michigan and lived in Alaska for six years while I attended school. My husband is epic, my two cats are ridiculous (and may well succeed in turning me into a crazy cat lady yet), and I proudly identify as a geek. I have a TARDIS tattoo, and a TARDIS engagement ring, so it's fairly safe to say that I adore "Doctor Who." I also happen to enjoy video games, music, and arts. I am the former Arts and Entertainment Editor at The Northern Light (my university's campus paper), and I also contributed a few articles to the Anchorage Press.
