10 Awesome Video Games You Can't Play Anymore
1. After Burner: Climax
After Burner: Climax was a ludicrously entertaining entry into the classic rail shooter franchise, and after releasing in arcades in 2006, finally landed on digital console platforms in 2010.
Climax didn't reinvent the wheel, but it was a snappy, high-wire, HD expansion of the series' much-loved aerial dogfighting gameplay.
If you were craving a complex story or diverse gameplay, there were better games for you, but if you merely desired the adrenalised thrill of indiscriminately shooting down enemy aircraft, Sega had you covered here.
Until 2014, at least.
At the end of 2014, After Burner: Climax was delisted from PSN and Xbox Live, with reports suggesting that this was due to Sega's licensing agreement for the player's F-14D Super Tomcat aircraft expiring.
Curiously, the mobile version was relisted as part of Sega's Sega Forever service in 2019, but delisted again in 2021. Fans have been passionately calling for Sega to relist the game ever since, but alas, it's been met with mere radio silence so far.
