10 Beloved Video Games Series That Have Been Ruined By The Industry
1. Dead Space
It all started off so promisingly. The original Dead Space came out at the perfect time, stepping up to fill the void in the survival horror genre left behind by Resident Evil and Silent Hill. It combined a minimal interface with a suffocating over-the-shoulder perspective, tight corridors, and plenty of dark corners to make for a truly terrifying experience.
Buoyed by the excellent reviews and sales of the first game, EA inexplicably went on to do exactly what Capcom and Konami did with their horror franchises - turn them into action games. It's not like Dead Space 2 was even a bad game, but it betrayed the survival horror tone the original had built its reputation on, and let down horror-starved audiences. The series had gone off-track, and sales dipped.
With a last chance to set things right, EA - perhaps out of panic - went down the all-out guns-a-blazing co-op action route for Dead Space 3, with a focus on big firefights rather than jumpy thrills. It was pretty, but devoid of the brilliance of the original. Sales were even worse this time round, and EA shelved the series. That's what you get for not keeping a horror series true to its roots, EA!
