10 Best Battle Royale Video Games - Ranked
2. Fortnite: Battle Royale
With PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds taking off, it was inevitable that big name publishers would try and jump on the bandwagon. By far the most successful so far is Epic Games' Fortnite: Battle Royale. A PvP spin-off of team tower defense game Fortnite, the battle royale component is unbelievably strong and well made.
Discarding the gritty, military look of many battle royale games, Fortnite: Battle Royale is a colourful and vibrant game, with waxwork like characters and a cartoon aesthetic. Leaping from the odd Battle Bus, 100 players descend upon a massive map and vie to be the winner by scavenging for weapons, health and materials. Fortnite's biggest difference is the addition of a comprehensive building system, which allows players to create walls, ceilings and even entire buildings in the hands of competent players, all on the move.
Fortnite: Battle Royale has become so popular that it has eclipsed the PvE game it originally spun off from, helping to turn Fortnite's fortunes around. The gunplay is a little iffy - hits often feel like they don't register properly - but the game is otherwise incredibly polished and feels complete. Combine the high production vales with the fact it's free and you've got a winner on your hands.
