7. TMNT: Turtles In Time

Following on from TMNT: The Arcade Game, this SNES sequel high-kicked onto shelves in 1992 and swiftly bested its predecessor on all counts, giving console kids – at the time on a major shell high, given the worldwide fame of the green gang - a fun and flighty beat ‘em up.

Turtles In Time has a suitably silly plot – gelatinous goon Krang has robbed the Statue Of Liberty - but all of that isn’t too important in a game that requires up to two players to charge through locales from both the series and the live-action movies, flinging and pile driving various coloured Foot Soldiers into the dirt.

While every brawler out there included decent boss battles, Turtles In Time had the luxury of a strong villains gallery, meaning each level would conclude with an almighty scrap with a familiar face. Fights don’t come much trickier or satisfying than the game’s face off with Baxter Stockman aka The Fly, which required some serious skill.

The Turtles gaming brand worked best as a brawler and it was thanks to the success of this game that the manhole was opened for other developers to create games based on various other TV and movie properties
