10 Best Beat 'Em Up Video Games Of All TIme

8. The Warriors

The Warriors
Rockstar Games

In many ways, Rockstar’s The Warriors is as much a homage to Walter Hill’s cult seventies flick as it is to those brawling games of old. For film fans, the game includes all the New York grit and grime from the movie, while at the same time offering a better glimpse of the weird and wonderful gangs that made The Warriors’ trek across town such a ball ache.

But on the other hand there’s some superb old school gameplay on offer that elevates this from being just a pretty bruised face. The open-world nature of the game may be a far departure from Streets Of Rage’s Axel and co. laying the smack down in an elevator, but elements such as gym training, stealing raids and chase sequences only serve to bolster whatever character from the movie you’ve selected as your ‘hero’. Any stat increase meant the fight moves at your disposal are better - handy when faced with an angry group of Orphans.

While this may not be the best beat ‘em up ever, whispers that this is the best movie adaptation of all time deserve to echo loudly, whenever that divisive conversation rears its head.
