10 Best Dark Souls Bosses - Ranked

1. Ornstein And Smough (DS1)

The OGs. The tag team. The little-and-large strike force of Ornstein and Smough made every player terrified to their very core on their first playthroughs of Dark Souls, and it’s not hard to see why.

You’ve got two of them to avoid during phase one, which can get nigh-on impossible if they trap you in a corner. Once you do finally take one out, the other imbues himself with the powers of his dead comrade. It’s an eye-watering scenario that left gamers scarred for life.

You didn’t even need to play the game to know about this pair. My friend and I originally got Dark Souls on our Xbox 360s in 2014, when it was free on Games With Gold. Before we begun, we did some preliminary research, and we quickly discovered who it was that everyone feared: Ornstein and Smough.

This pair make up the most iconic boss fight of the Dark Souls series, and that makes it tough not to put them at the number one spot. Some of the bosses in the original Dark Souls were a bit lacklustre (looking at you, Bed of Chaos) – but these two more than make up for it.

A masterpiece of a boss fight.
