Shepard really summed up their friendship with Garrus in Mass Effect 3 when they said, "There's no Shepard without Vakarian."

Though there are many great companions throughout the franchise, Turian sniper Garrus is the consensus #1 with a bullet. 

He's unrelentingly loyal to Shep, though also isn't afraid to set them straight on things, and if you're so inclined, you can even escalate this unbreakable friendship into a tender romance.

Garrus is a great to chew the fat with, extremely useful in combat, and has an all-timer voice to boot. 

Plus, his friendship with Shep is significantly deepened over the course of the trilogy, rather than simply maintaining a charming holding pattern for three games.

Garrus is the kind of calming yet wise presence we all want from a best friend - willing to go with us to the end of the line, but also possessing their own agency.
