10 Best Lord of the Rings Games
9. The Lord Of The Rings: War In The North (2011)
Helmed by Snowblind Studios (the developers behind Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance), co-op action-RPG The Lord Of The Rings: War In The North combines elements from Tolkien's books and Jackson's films to forge its own epic narrative within Middle-earth.
Running parallel to the events of Lord Of The Rings, the plot sees a trio of adventurers (who can be controlled by up to three players) tasked by Aragorn to hunt down one of Sauron's generals. As they journey across the land, they're taken to numerous locations from the films as well as other iconic places from Middle-earth, including The Barrow-downs and Carn Dûm.
In typical RPG fashion, players level up their character and acquire better gear as they progress. However, it was this title's gruesome hack-and-slash combat that made it especially noteworthy. Each clash with Sauron's forces was a blood-soaked display of carnage as combos cleaved limbs from orcs with visceral delight. Killing orcs has never been so much fun in what is one of the most violent LOTR games ever made.
However, since this title was unfortunately delisted from all platforms in 2019, players will need a physical copy to experience this excellent action-RPG for themselves.
