10 Best Open World Games Of The Past 10 Years

6. Just Cause 2

What happens when you take Grand Theft Auto and put it in an island setting while giving the gameplay mechanics a big dose of steroids? You get the Just Cause franchise. Just Cause took the open world driving game and turned it on its head by adding some insane capabilities, the largest open world setting at the time of its release and some of the best new mechanics to the game style. GTA is often criticized for its stereotypical portrayal of its characters, but Just Cause relishes in these stereotypes to create its humor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVirgfyuIC8 Just Cause 2 took things even further than its predecessor by giving your character a grappling hook/parachute combo that allowed you to navigate the islands in a whole new way. The islands were beautifully designed with a lot of attention paid to including every type of landscape one could imagine. Tons of hilarious Easter eggs and a lot of fun little secrets also added a lot to the experience, especially if you are a fan of Lost. The game came out with very little advertising and hype, which is really a shame because it will provide you with dozens of hours of hilarious and satisfying gameplay. Even the glitches are really fun and have spawned hundred of fan-made videos on YouTube. Just Cause has since garnered quite a loyal following among fans. So much so that a special multiplayer mod was developed by people who had nothing to do with the original game. If that isn't love for a game, then we don't know what is.
