Few games have ever grabbed your attention so immediately as by dangling the main character off a cliff on a train carriage that could fall at any second.

After the first entry into the PlayStation 3’s crowning jewel of a series had introduced gamers to beloved wise-cracking adventurer Nathan Drake, the superior sequel thrust him into mortal peril straight from the moment the game started, demanding that the person holding the controller act fast to rescue their new favourite avatar.

It was without doubt an incredible way to start a game, as the sequence was presented without context, so after the player had managed to negotiate the dangling death trap, they were already hooked in, wanting to know how Nate had come to be in such a position.

It is a modern classic, one that even Naughty Dog would be hard pressed to top… but I'm getting ahead of myself.
