Aside from the seven movies that the series has produced over nearly forty years, Star Wars boasts all manner of novels, comics, TV series' and games to add to the immense history of George Lucas' universe. Many have used events and characters from the films as direct inspiration, but even more have sought to stand out on their own and add something original to the lore.

Admittedly, the success of this has often been more miss than hit, but it has to be said that there have been some really great additions over the years. Some of the new stories have brought some truly excellent characters to the various galaxies of Star Wars, and it's with these that the mythology continues to grow.

Heroes and villains alike have made great appearances in the extended Star Wars universe, but many are still yet to make an impact on the cinematic side of things. Such characters deserve more recognition, so it's time to give the best of the best their due.

Arriving two years almost two years after the cinematic release of The Phantom Menace, and focusing its attention on one of the few strong elements from the film, Star Wars: Starfighter put players in the shoes of three starfighter pilots. The most engaging of these was Rhys Dallows, pilot of an N-1 Naboo Starfighter.

With the events of the game taking place just before the film's Battle of Naboo. Dallows is responsible for assembling a crew that takes the fight to the Trade Federation and the mercenaries that support them. Appearing almost like a blueprint for everyone's new favourite pilot, Poe Dameron, Dallows is brave, daring and proves to be a great asset to the Naboo Royal Space Fighter Corps.

With so much of the attention in The Phantom Menace rightly being placed on Anakin Skywalker's involvement in the battle, it was a shame we didn't get to meet many characters like this in the movie. But Star Wars: Starfighter was a great game, and the introduction of a character like Rhys Dallows was just one of many reasons to play it.
