10 Best Quotations From The Metal Gear Solid Franchise

9. €œThe Spirit Of The Warrior Will Always Be With You.€ €” The Sorrow (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater & Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots)

The Sorrow€™s supernatural abilities immediately made him the perfect candidate from the Metal Gear Solid universe to leave a lasting impression, which is exactly what happened from his initial appearance of lingering behind The Boss during the Virtuous Mission to his final showdown with Naked Snake. Naked Snake escaped Groznyj Grad whilst being pursued by the Ocelot Unit and, as a result, entered a limbo-like state when he leapt into the river, where none other than The Sorrow arrived to test the mind of the soldier - his appearance was perfectly timed, considering Snake had been put through a torture session beforehand and his physical body withstood the pain, meaning it€™s an opportunity for The Sorrow to try and break his mind. It truly was one of the chilling confrontations from the series, with the player having to encounter and endure every NPC they killed. Once the player finally learned how to wake Snake back up (which is brilliant that MGS still incorporates unique segments like this in each instalment), The Sorrow departed with a powerful statement: €œThe spirit of the warrior will always be with you.€ These words continue to haunt Big Boss in the follow-up instalments, specifically for how The Boss€™ actions always remained etched firmly in the back of his mind. Furthermore, Big Boss overcame all of the emotions that he faced against the members of the Cobra Unit - except for sorrow, which he continued to hold on to after The Boss€™ death. It was brilliant when Kojima incorporated The Sorrow€™s comment in the background of Old Snake€™s victory against Screaming Mantis, with its phrasing exactly what it implies: Solid Snake will always be Solid Snake, with €˜the spirit of the warrior€™ always there, regardless of how old the soldier becomes.
