A revenge-driven, crusading vigilante, to a depressed, lovesick cop-killer, to an alcoholic, drug-addicted avenging angel.
The one consistent trait with Max Payne, however, is that he's a very good murderer, and he knows that all too much, he's keen to remind you about it. Borderline suicidal at times as well, yet he pushes to survive every gunfight he ever has.
As with most heroes - anti or not - he's always motivated by a good cause and by the end he does achieve it, but along the way he always seems to attract so much more *cough* maximum pain! Again, he's aware of that too.
