9. Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D action RPG developed by Heart Machine, described by its lead developer as a combination of The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past and Diablo. Visually it's immediately striking: it might be pixelated, but its isometric view captures a stunning slice of the game's world. Everything is diffused in a gorgeous, colourful light.

The same goes for the music, which is composed by musician Disasterpiece, the man responsible for Fez's stunning soundtrack (and also the terrific score of the horror film It Follows). Typically for Disasterpiece, the music is deeply electronic yet frequently melancholic, with long stretches of gorgeous piano evoking huge emotion.

Hyper Light Drifter's music ties in so well with its visuals that at times it almost feels born from them, another feather in Disasterpiece's already prestigious cap.
