1. Gears Of War Series
Release: 2006-2013Month Offered: December 2013-February 2016 Simply, there's no question about it, this one takes the cake. Hate or love the series, it ultimately is astounding that over the course of three years fans have been given every single game of the Gears of War series (with the exception of the newest Ultimate Edition, of course). It's easy to overlook the fact that we were given the entire series as well, because with the exception of receiving Gears of War first back in December 2013, all the others have been given away out of order, with months in between. Next to Halo, Gears of War is Microsoft's baby. It's one of the few console exclusives that can really push people to want to own an Xbox, and still is an innovative and genre-defining series. Really, what makes this all the more impressive now, is the fact that every single one of these games is backwards compatible. So those who tossed their Xbox 360 in favour of their One can play each, providing they still own them. Truly, this is the best of the best. Love it or hate it, this series is going to be revered for years to come. For those who didn't get aboard the hype train, they were able to crash the party late and see what all the fuss was about. If hooked, over time they were able to play through the entire series thanks to Games With Gold. This collection of games is the best thing fans have received from Microsoft over the past three years, hands down. What's been your favourite game Microsoft gave away for free?
