10 Biggest Gaming Moments Of The Last Decade

9. Pokémon Go Unites The World

The summer of 2016 will and indeed should be remembered for one thing only - Pokémon Go.

Nintendo and Niantic’s augmented reality app was certainly anticipated by nobody really could’ve predicted how massive it would become. The servers for the game were wholly unreliable at launch due to the sheer number of people who were curious to try it and, when they did finally even out, millions of people took to the streets and countryside to spin Pokè-Stops and catch the original 151.

Everyone who gave the game a try, even if it was just for a few weeks or months in the height of that summer will have warm memories of using it as an excuse to spend time in the sun with friends, catching Caterpies and cursing your phone’s dwindling battery life.

News coverage of the game was entirely mixed, as Pokémon Go was praised for bringing people together and for getting people moving but there were of course stories of tragic accidents from players who weren’t paying enough attention to their surroundings.

And whilst the game still remains popular today, its launch generated a huge boom for the Pokémon franchise - driving up sales of video games, cards and more. It was the closest we’d ever get to a second-coming of late 90s PokéMania.
