10 Boss Fights That Stopped Video Games Being Perfect

6. Shao Kahn - Mortal Kombat 9

During the millennium, the gaming community felt like Mortal Kombat had become too convoluted for its own good.

Fortunately, the ninth entry reinvigorated the series with its back-to-basics style, diverse characters roster, and a surprisingly complex story. Even though Mortal Kombat looked like it was on its last legs, MK9 proved the franchise still had plenty of fight in it.

But for all the game's positive features, the final battle against Shao Kahn is atrocious.

Now, it's no secret Mortal Kombat has its fair share of unfair bosses. Kintaro's teleport stomp is unblockable. Motaro is immune to projectiles. And Kronika is just bull!*$%.

But Kahn in MK9 is a terrible boss for two reasons. Firstly, the skull-masked kombatant can stun-lock you while you're performing almost any move, leaving you open to his vicious attacks. This technique is so annoying, most players don't bother fighting Kahn in a straight battle. Instead, they spam the Outworld emperor from afar with projectiles.

And that's the other problem. If you keep your distance while shooting fireballs, you can beat the final boss without breaking a sweat. This method is so easy to implement, some players have won the game, having NEVER fought Shao Khan fairly.
