An in-game world as huge and populous as Azeroth inevitably has the odd secret that most players are unlikely to come across. But not many are as quietly terrifying as your run-in with the hideous Writhing Leviathan.

In the 2018 Battle for Azeroth expansion is a zone named Vol'dun, and right at the edge of the map, you'll find a secret underwater area, complete with its own bar (though how drinks work there would be interesting to see...).

It's not all merriment down there, however, for if you swim to the end of the platform and look down, a huge, tentacled mass can be seen in the depths below, staring right at you.

Blowing the horn nearby will send it into a frenzy, and it will flap towards you in a way that stops your fragile heart in a nanosecond. Once you get closer, you'll discover that it's completely harmless - but good lord, is it ever creepy.

At least you won't have to swim back up very far for some much needed Dutch courage.
