10 Creepy Gaming Soundtracks Guaranteed To Fuel Your Nightmares

2. Bioshock

At first glance, Bioshock might not necessarily be at the top of your “games to play on Halloween” list, but its elements of survival horror, story, art and character design certainly give off a chilling vibe.

In contrast to some of the other games on the list, which become rather creepy without the added element of sound, Bioshock almost requires it to work as a horror game: the juxtaposition of the jazz classic “Beyond the Sea” that plays as you enter the lighthouse foyer, next to the design of the underwater city of Rapture, with its dark colour palette and eerie art-deco design, sets the player on edge almost immediately.

If that weren’t enough to prove that this was a game best suited for play on cold, dark nights, then the use of horn flares and a symphony's worth of strings certainly would be. Add this to multiple voice layers of Little Sisters and the the whale like roars of the Big Daddys, or the Splicers who simply cannot help singing or talking to themselves, and Bioshock begins to hold its own amongst the titans of classic horror gaming.
