10 Creepy Gaming Soundtracks Guaranteed To Fuel Your Nightmares
3. Bloodborne
Bloodborne isn’t necessarily a game strongly associated with the season of Halloween, despite there being werewolves and ghost like figures scattered through every level. Instead it tends to be deemed 'not especially frightening' thanks to its lack of obvious horror.
However, looking past the fact that this isn't a game focused on inducing panic attacks, Bloodborne is a game that is perfect for players who want to celebrate fright night, without so much of the “fright” element.
In fact, the soundtrack, thanks to its subtlety, actively contributes to this feeling of prolonged unease, as opposed to scaring the player with out and out jump scares. Instead, Bloodborne takes a more atmospheric approach, using visual cues such as its colour pallete and lighting, and merging them with a soundtrack based primarily on subtle placement of droning cellos and double basses, and vocals that sound almost ethereal in comparison.
It’s this overall sound which builds throughout the game, rooting a deep sense of dread and anxiety that stays with the player throughout their time in Old Yarnham.
