10 Crowdfunded Video Games That Never Saw The Light Of Day

4. Yogventure!

Stomping Land
Winterkewl Games

Goal: $250,000 – Raised: $567,665

Based on the popular online series, Yogventure! was the much anticipated release from Simon Lane and Lewis Brindley, and was planned to be an open-world sandbox adventure featuring characters inspired by the online series.

In 2012, the game was cancelled following an incredibly successful kickstarter campaign, which saw the team behind the project more than double their original funding ambitions. In response to the cancellation, Winterkewl Games – the studio in charge of producing the game – began offering physical rewards to backers as a consolation, as well as access to an entirely different game called TUG.

In this instance, the reason for the cancellation was inexperience on the part of creators, as well as general incompetence and avarice. After demanding $150,000 from Winterkewl Games, Lane and Brindley proceeded to distance themselves from the project, blaming everyone else for its cancellation, and accepting zero responsibility themselves.

According to Kris Vale – the founder of Winterkewl Games – the pair demanded payment for their services and forced the company into a corner, refusing to contract a new programmer or continue work on the game themselves.

Since then, Winterkewl Games has gone out of business, Yogventures! has disappeared without a trace, and The Yogscast have accepted no accountability whatsoever.
