10 Essential Disney Video Games For Hardcore Fans
2. DuckTales
Back in the 1990s, you couldn't turn on the Disney Channel without seeing something related to one of the studio's famous family of ducks. The most popular wasn't Donald, and instead, it was his insanely rich Uncle Scrooge. Of course, the addition of Huey, Duey, and Louie didn't hurt, and DuckTales was as popular as Scrooge was wealthy.
The television series spawned all sorts of licensed merchandise, which of course, included a game for the NES and Game Boy. Both ports of the game were pretty much the same in terms of gameplay and story, which was amazing given the limited capabilities of the handheld system.
The game featured Scrooge as the player character, who went around the world collecting treasure in an attempt at outwitting Flintheart Glomgold in becoming the world's richest duck. DuckTales was Capcom's most successful title for both the NES and Game Boy, having sold more than a million copies for each system.
DuckTales was fairly unique, as it had non-linear gameplay presented over colorful graphics and excellent sound. It was re-released in 2013, and again in 2017 for all the modern systems as part of The Disney Afternoon Collection, which just goes to show how popular these games were if adults are more than willing to pay tons of cash to play them once more.
