10 Games Hidden In Other Games
4. Maniac Mansion - Day of the Tentacle
Day of the Tentacle is a Lucasfilm Games point-and-click adventure that is a sequel to an even older Lucasfilm release, Maniac Mansion.
The sequel follows the cast of the original game as they travel back in time to prevent a lab accident gone wrong from destroying the world (it sounds quite serious, but rest assured, the game’s sense of humor is anything but).
Since the game does a lot of time jumping and references the older title quite frequently, you might start feeling nostalgic for Maniac Mansion, but unfortunately, unlike Day of the Tentacle, which was re-released for the PS4, Maniac Mansion does not have a modern release.
Well, except that’s not entirely true. You can still play Maniac Mansion on modern consoles—it’s just that you have to do it by playing Day of the Tentacle.
It turns out that the sequel’s rerelease comes with the full version of Maniac Mansion that you can access via the computer inside weird Ed Edison’s room.
This hidden version offers the complete experience of Maniac Mansion, and it even allows you to save your progress in the prequel separately from the main game so that you can play it while simultaneously playing the sequel.
Talk about multitasking!
