10 Games Hidden Within Games
4. Donkey Kong & Jetpac (Donkey Kong 64)
In hindsight, Donkey Kong 64 wasn't quite the plaforming masterpiece it was made out to be when it arrived on Nintendo 64 in 1999. There was so many tedious collect-em-up tasks and that rap song on the title screen. Ugh!
But it did come with two of the greatest Easter eggs of its generation in the form of games within games. Both the original Donkey Kong and the BBC Micro classic Jetpac were fully playable in Donkey Kong 64, and an integral part of the game.
Players had to tackle these retro greats to earn special coins that were needed to beat the game, but post-completion, they could revisit them in search of a high score, just like in the good old days.
Donkey Kong 64 was Nintendo's primary defence against Sega's new console the Dreamcast and it was essentially three games for the price of one. Nintendo isn't quite as generous with its retro games these days, since it can make a tonne of money off them through its online storefront.
