10 Gaming Franchises Sega Really Need To Resurrect
2. Panzer Dragoon
The penultimate franchise on this list is the first one that didn’t originate in the arcades. The first Panzer Dragoon game was in fact an original and exclusive game released in 1995 for the Sega Saturn that wowed audiences with its stunning visuals and really set the bar for all similar games.
In essence the first two games in the series were both on-rail shooters, but the gorgeous worlds and back stories around them made them so much more than that. It was in fact these elements that saw Sega transform it into a RPG for the last installment of the Saturn trilogy in 1998, Panzer Dragoon Saga.
Two very different version of Panzer Dragoon were released for handheld systems along the way (the Tiger R-Zone and Sega Game Gear respectively) before a final game was released for the original Xbox in the form of Panzer Dragoon Orta in 2002. Despite the widespread acclaim, Sega never went back to do another.
The Xbox One released of Crimson Dragon really should have been a new Panzer Dragoon game, showing Sega that if they don’t do it somebody else will. Although that game was not without it's faults, so Sega still have a chance to fix that. An open world Panzer Dragoon game has enormous potential, especially if you added in some of the RPG elements from the Saga game to make it a deeper experience. Using your dragon to fly over land and see, join up with allies for battles and even turn evil to fight against good if the fancy takes you.
