10 Gaming Villains That Secretly SPIED On You
8. Odin - God of War Ragnarok
The main villain of God of War: Ragnarok is Odin the All-Father, the master manipulator that has ruined the lives of the other Norse gods just to preserve his own life and rule of Asgard.
As a man of intrigue, Odin is no stranger to espionage. In fact, there are several moments when the All-Father spies on you that are so subtle, it took several really dedicated players and even input from the game's director, Eric Williams, to discover them.
The first and the most obvious example is the several ravens you can spot throughout the game. They secretly belong to Odin, who can summon them from his tattoos, and you can tell when they're spying on Kratos by the fact the tattoos are missing from Odin's arms in several cutscenes.
In terms of the more subtle cases of espionage, Eric Williams confirmed that Odin has secretly disguised himself as two characters in the game.
The first disguise is that of Týr, whom you rescue at the start of the story. Unlike the real deal, the impostor Týr appears in the subtitles without the accent over the "Y," which is how you can tell them apart. Of course, Odin reveals this himself eventually in a particularly heartbreaking way.
The second disguise is a dwarf that shows up on the bridge over the river leading to Svartalfheim.
If you look closely, the dwarf spits on you, which is honestly the exact type of petty and sneaky stuff that fits Odin's modus operandi.
