10 Greatest Ever Video Game DLC That Didn't Steal Your Money

1. The Citadel - Mass Effect 3

The Mass Effect series was rife with excellent DLC, offering plenty of memorable missions and fleshing-out of existing characters. But Citadel was special, because it was almost certainly a response to fan complaints about the Mass Effect 3 ending, and gave us the sense of closure to the trilogy that we'd been pining for. The bulk of the DLC is a several-hour mission taking place in the Citadel, the central hub of the Mass Effect universe, taking you to previously unexplored areas of the impressive space-station metropolis. It's a decent mission, but what really makes it stand out is the return of some of the most-loved characters throughout the series, with the plot essentially being a convenient excuse to gather all the characters for one final hurrah. But the real pay-off comes at the end of the mission, when you get to hang out with all the surviving characters from across the Mass Effect series, engaging in sharply-written banter, farewell flings, and other activities including gambling, drinking, and furnishing Shepard's swanky pad. It's cheesy and goofy, but it's also a touching piece of fan service, letting players have that farewell with the whole Mass Effect crew that they always wanted.
