10 Gruesome Video Game Moments That Were Genuinely Hard To Watch
4. Decapitation (Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus)
2017's Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus kept the series' love of grisly gore going with this stomach-churning scene. It's not quite as outrageously gruesome as the brain extraction from The New Order, but it somehow managed to be even more disturbing and difficult for players to experience.
Once again, this important scene occurs near the beginning of the game and shows our hero, B.J. Blazkowicz, captured as he attempted to rescue one of his friends, Caroline Becker. Just like in the first game, B.J. is held down and forced to watch as the psychopathic villain, Frau Engel, taunts and teases him, eventually lifting up an axe and decapitating Caroline in one fell swoop.
Engel laughs maniacally as Caroline's severed head rolls towards B.J. and then, to make the scene even more upsetting, she picks up the head and pushes it up against the screen, continuing to taunt and laugh at our hero and setting herself up as one of the most hateable video game villains in recent memory.
