10 Hidden Dialogues In Video Games

5. All-Knowing Vortigaunt - Half-Life 2 (2004)

Calendar Man Arkham City
Valve

Yep, it's Valve again. Truly, the company wouldn't have the glowing reputation they do if not for the amazing secrets they keep stuffing into their video games. And when these secrets are actually relevant to the game's story, that just makes us want to find them even more.

The chapter, Water Hazard, is the second chapter involving the handy Airboat vehicle, and features one of the game's most intriguing easter eggs near the end of the level. If you keep an eye out for a sewage pipe with a partially open grate, you can jump up and actually enter it by standing on the Airboat at just the right angle.

Make sure you have enough health for the trip, as the tunnel is full of toxic waste. At the end, you'll find a quaint little campsite, and around the fire is a wise, sage-like Vortigaunt who will regale you with visions of what was, is, and will be.

"For a brief time you joined us, you are one between the worlds," is just one of many cryptic things it says to Gordon Freeman. It also makes reference to the events of the first Half-Life, including Gordon's defeat of the Nihilanth, and the many Vortigaunts he killed along the way.

What this old storyteller thinks of what transpires later in the Half-Life canon, we may never know.
