10 Horror Movies To Scare The Crap Out Of New Parents

Ever thought your kid might be the Devil? Well, these movies won't convince you otherwise.

Orphan Movie
Warner Bros.

A shuffling walk, bloodshot eyes and an unmistakable, haunting groan - no I’m not describing a zombie, this is life for any parent with a newborn baby.

Buried head to toe in bibs, bottles and barf-covered clothes, the introduction to your new bundle of joy can be nothing short of a real-life horror film. And as it turns out, horror has long since used parenthood and children as subjects of some of the most hair-raising tales across cinema history.

From killer kids to paranormal entities trying to corrupt their innocent souls, horror films show you the worst of the worst to make sleepless nights and poosplosions seem like child’s play. If you're looking for something to keep you awake during the endless night feeds, here’s our round-up of the top 10 horror movies to petrify new parents…

10. Poltergeist

Orphan Movie
MGM

For me, there are few scenes that sum up parenthood and the acceptance of the chaos that it brings than Steven and Diana Freeling casually showing a group of paranormal investigators a room in their house with furniture flying round the room like it's just an average Tuesday.

Well, with a child, furniture and toys flying around is your average Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and the rest of the week - though hopefully with less malevolent apparitions involved.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Poltergeist is still as bone-chilling now as it was upon its release, telling the story of the Freeling family as their new dream home becomes a nightmare when evil spirits are intent on driving them out, taking a particular interest in youngest daughter Carol Anne.

If nothing else, watching this film will certainly give you the heebie jeebies every time your youngster touches the TV with their grubby paws.
