Naughty Dog are usually pretty efficient when it comes to releasing sequels to their biggest franchises. In fact, the developer managed to craft four top-tier titles during the PS3 era without ever missing a beat.

However, the inner turmoil that surrounded the production of this year’s Uncharted 4 could have put some major breaks on any future projects, particularly any new entries in The Last of Us franchise.

With the project heads of the original Uncharted 4 leaving mid-way through production and the entire game being retooled and rewritten by the guys responsible for The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has had its hands full for the past few years trying to correct the course of its studio.

And while this didn’t stop Uncharted 4 from being excellent, that huge shift probably meant that whatever follow up the studio was prepping for The Last of Us was put on the back-burner. With the original directors busy saving Uncharted 4, we’re no doubt going to be waiting a bit longer than usual before we see a new release from Sony’s hottest new property.
