Why It Could Release In 2022

Given that this Wizarding World-themed game has been in development since 2018 and was formally unveiled back in September 2020, it's very plausible on paper that it makes 2022.

During a recent State of Play stream dedicated to the game, Warner Bros. announced Hogwarts Legacy as having a "holiday 2022" release window, which makes absolute sense given the obvious appeal of having a Harry Potter-adjacent game in stores before Christmas.

Though games regularly miss their announced release windows, one suspects WB Games would rather release a slightly unpolished product in November in order to benefit from Christmas period sales, even if they catch some flak for the game releasing with some bugs and jank.

Why It Might Not

Though the game actually looks pretty solid, March's State of Play stream definitely showed that it needs some polishing before release - the frame-rate wasn't always great and the animations could've been better.

Obviously there's still around six months of time for developer Avalanche Software to whip the game into shape, but considering the ongoing controversy surrounding Potter creator J.K. Rowling and the stink of the latest Fantastic Beasts film bombing at the box office, WB may decide it's worth pushing it to 2023.

Then again, many casual-minded Potter fans either don't know or don't care about Rowling's controversies, and considering this game obviously has far more in common with the Potter movies rather than Fantastic Beasts, that whiff of apathy is unlikely to follow Hogwarts Legacy.
